The Telecommunications Memorial Project, now available online, has digitized Sergio Motta Collection documents referring to the privatization of the Telebrás system. The project started in 2009 as an initiative of the Fernando Henrique Cardoso Institute under the overall management of José Expedicto Prata, with institutional sponsorship from Telefônica and support from the Sergio Motta Institute, which honors the memory of Sergio Motta, who died on April 19, 1998, just three months before privatization took place.

The project set out to organize and digitize analogue material such as cassettes, VHS tapes, press clippings and photos of events, such as inaugurations, and records of the 1997 seminars involving members of the special bidding procedure committee of Telebrás system executives. Also publicly available are some 130,000 documents such as magazines, books, and legislative enactments.

Storage for this considerable volume has been provided by a database specially designed to meet the wide range of indexing characteristics required for these items (written, audio, and audiovisual). Access to the data is free on the Telecommunications Memorial site or through terminals that will be installed for researchers at the Fernando Henrique Cardoso Institute.
